Indian Fusion Trends for the Modern Indian Bride

One of the hottest new trends now is fusion food. While there are many regional cuisines which lend themselves well to the fusion movement, none do as well as Indian cuisine. Indian fusion cuisine manages to absorb and assimilate a huge number of influences and still maintain its unique flavor. Indian fusion food is especially popular for events, so you may want to consider Indian fusion options for a wedding catering.

The key to making Indian fusion food is keeping the flavors of India intact and complemented through different foods. Traditional Indian foods use a variety of spices, like turmeric and cumin, using them to liberally season foods. A fusion take on these food trends maintains a strong use of spices. You can expect to see your favorite Indian flavors infused in nontraditional food choices.

Pairing of traditional and non-traditional flavors is the key to understanding fusion cuisine; for example, IndAroma’s unique Tandoori Shrimp with Mango Salsa!  You may also see Indian fusion cuisine chefs maintain many of  their signature cooking styles. For instance, in authentic Indian cuisine spices are typically toasted in a hot pan to enhance their flavor before using in a dish. Food is also usually cooked in hot oil, then butter is added for flavor at the end. You can expect to see some of the same cooking methods used in Indian fusion foods. However, don’t expect chefs to follow all the recipes when creating a unique twist. They may borrow cooking techniques from other cultures to create dishes that are unique and yet familiar at the same time.  A prime example of this is Indo-Chinese cuisine. Some of the most popular items are Gobhi Manchurian, Chili Chicken, and Hakka Noodles.

You may see your tandoori chicken prepared in a way that’s not quite what you remember, for example the Tandoori Jerk Chicken, something we created for an adventurous couple. Samosas are also a huge trend in Indian fusion food with a variety of fillings and spices used to flavor them. Of course, naan is a staple in traditional dishes but this tasty bread can also go from a simple side to a crust for a pizza — or take on any number of other roles in a dish!

Now that we’ve described what Indian fusion food is, you should probably know what it isn’t: it isn’t boring and it’s certainly not what you would expect! This is one of the main reasons why it is a great option for a wedding catering menu, and why IndAroma is the smart choice for your wedding caterer! What a great time we had at the 2014 Fall Dream Shaadi Expo! So many beautiful South Asian booths displaying all the colors and sparkle one could ask for when planning an Indian or South Asian wedding!

IndAroma’s was a hoppin’ booth, with hundreds of guests sampling our delicious Aam Palak Chaat, Paneer Wontons, and an Indo-Chinese favorite at our wedding caterings: Gobhi Manchurian, cooked up live, hot, and fresh! Doesn’t this food look delicious??

Oh my goodness, do yourself a favor and come to IndAroma TODAY to try this unbelievably delectable confection made by one of our pastry chefs!

Flaky puff pastry filled with a base of white chocolate and custard cream, then topped with fresh strawberries, kiwi, mango, and blueberries. Seriously, these will not last long, so come on in!


Meet Hannah and Kunal, our latest gorgeous couple! Married in July on the Maine coast, they celebrated their newly-wedded state last weekend at the trendy and stunning ToolBox in Dupont Circle, Washington DC!

A Pilates studio?? you ask… I should mention that it’s also an upscale art studio, with polished wood floors, lots of steel, glass, and brick, and its clean, modern lines form the perfect counterpoint to the glittering, colorful, traditional Indian clothing worn by Kunal and his beautiful bride, Hannah.

Befitting the artsy atmosphere, IndAroma’s delectable hors d’ouevres – from traditional samosas to the tangy fusion Tandoori shrimp with mango salsa, from the ever-popular Aam Palak Chaat (pictured below) to the amazing Fish Pakoras – added festive colors and tantalizing aromas as they were passed by our professional and courteous staff.

As we shared last week, we participated in the 2014 Vivah Bridal Expo at the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner last Sunday! It was a fantastic showcase of Indian and South Asian wedding vendors, with a great turnout and SO MUCH to see! For South Asian brides and grooms looking for ideas for their weddings, it was a veritable treasure trove! Of course, we think our booth was the prettiest (did you SEE that gorgeous cake in the photo and the adorable pumpkins??), but our guests told us we were definitely the TASTIEST! From the popular fusion Paneer Wontons and flavor-party-in-your-mouth Aam Palak Chaat to the sweet and scrumptious Gajar Halwa Tarts and oh-so-light-and-moist cake slices, our booth was conspicuously well-attended all day!

If you missed it, don’t despair! On November 2nd, we will be at Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA (a popular and spacious venue for South Asian weddings) for the 2014 Dream Shaadi show! Mark your calendars! You don’t want to miss an opportunity to taste our amazing food, do you??
